Top 10 Ways to Jump Start your Weight Loss

1. Eat protein at every meal, including breakfast.
2. Eliminate wheat- and flour-based products for the time being. And yes, that definitely includes bread and pasta.
3. Eat unprocessed foods. Ninety percent of what you eat should be a combination of (in this order of importance) raw vegetables, steamed vegetables, whole grain, lean protein, and maybe a few fruits if necessary.
4. Reduce starch to one portion a day, and don't eat that portion during your evening meal. Best choices are beans, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal.
5. Don't overdo fruit: one a day maximum, and only the low-sugar, high-fiber variety. Apples, pears, plums and berries all are good choices. For now, fruit should be eaten alone or with something light, like low fat nuts. Lose the fruit juice completely.
6. Reduce or eliminate dairy for the time being, especially cow's milk. Exceptions: reasonable amounts of low sugar, fat free yogurt.
7. Lose the booze. Despite what the "studies" say, you lose no health benefits by giving up alcohol (including wine). There is nothing essential in alcohol that you can't get in fruits and vegetables without all the bad side effects that go along with it.
8. Stop using vegetable oils such as sunflower, safflower and corn. The supermarket kind is highly refined, and it oxidizes easily when heated, contributing to arterial plaque. Use olive oil instead, and apply it to food after the food is cooked when possible.
9. Watch which types of fat you're eating. The amount of fat you eat is probably less important than the kind of fat you eat. The worst are fried foods, margarine and foods that contain hydrogenized or partially hydrogenized oils. The best is omega-3, found in fish and flaxseed oil.
10. Obsessively drink water: At least 8 ounces for every 20 pounds of bodyweight you're now carrying around, each day. Every day. No excuses.

I lost 35 lbs on this diet and have kept it off for 3 years. The most important point is to follow the time limit - 4 weeks on the strict diet and 2 weeks on the metabolism speed up part. I was able to eat a lot of food without gaining weight after finishing the metabolic raising diet. It gave me more awareness to reach for something like yogurt, edamame, an egg, jerkey, protein bar, instead of pretzels and other low fat carb snacks. I've always have eaten a lot of veggies so I ate even more than the portion control recommended. I had trouble losing weight by cutting back because I always exercise and don't a lot of calories anyway. Making myself eat more often and eating more balanced meals gave me a lifetime way of eating. I would recommend that people try to eat more vegetarian protein. I can't eat large portions of meat and at first had stomach aches. I ate more veggie burgers, edamame, wheat gluten products, etc. and did much better. Like any diet you have to go through a difficult period of cutting out empty calories and reducing your portions. I'm now a size 4 and have a plan to keep the weight off for life.

Lean For Life is a weight loss program that truly works--I personally went from weighing almost 260 pounds down to a very healthy 180 pounds in approximately 6 to 7 months. Although it IS a high-protein,low-carb program it focuses on eating healthy, low-fat foods and allows greater flexibility and gives you a better variety of foods to choose from. The encouragement and support I received from my local Lindora clinic's staff was also crucial to my success. Customer Review: Somewhat redundant
If you haven't read Adele Davis's groundbreaking work Let's Eat Right To Keep Fit, have not come across other low glycemic, whole food diets and aren't familiar with Dr. Christian Northrup's work, I suppose this book is helpful. Otherwise, I'd put my money elsewhere.
The book is written well enough and it does have alot of information. The problem is that the information has been around a long time. Most of us are now quite familiar with the benefits of low glycemic impact, whole foods, "good" fat, etc. I don't see the value of yet another book on the subject.
One of my main problems with the work, however, is the large number of supplements (which Dr. Perricone sells, of course) that one is supposed to take in order to reap the full benefits of his "promises." While each may offer some benefit, just the logistics of taking all of them in the proper combination (some need to be taken with food, some not) at the proper time (some can't be taken after a certain time because they interfere with sleep) would daunt even the most determined.
Not to mention the expense! They can be purchased at discount stores but they're still extremely expensive.
But perhaps I'm prejudiced. I prefer books that offer information without the contamination of vested interest. This one comes across as much less informational than infomercial, heavy on the "mercial", light on the "info."
A much better choice in my opinion would be Peter D'Adamo's Eat Right 4 Your Type. Published in 1996 it's as valid today as it was 10 years ago. It's an interesting read and a good all-around book on individualized nutrition.

Dr Perricone teaches a 3-part program that works wonder on your skin and weight. I have using it now for about a month in a half and notice changes with the way I feel and look at the age of 44 years young! Thankyou Dr Perricone for offering such a wonderful way to stay healthy and feeling better about yourself.My best friend bought me this book and another book called The Truth About Caffeine : How Companies That Promote it Deceive Us and What We Can Do About It. Since he knows I quit black tea recently, he's been really wonderful helping me in cope with my mood swings. This book is a labor of love I loved the book and don't miss coffee one bit.
