Understanding Weight Loss

A pound of fat represents approximately 3500 calories of stored energy. In order to lose a pound of fat, you have to use 3500 more calories than you consume. Although this seems like a simple formula remember that your body is a thinking organism designed to protect itself.
If you were to try to reduce your intake by the entire 3500 calories in one day, your body would register some type of alarm and think that there is a state of emergency. Immediately your metabolism would slow down and no weight loss would be achieved.
It's better to spread your weight loss out over a period of a week, so that you aim to reduce your caloric intake by 3500 to 7000 calories per week, resulting in weight loss of one to two pounds per week. It's generally not recommended to try to lose more than two pounds in a week. Attempting to do so may cause health risks, and on top of this you're unlikely to be successful.
In the example of attempting to lose two pounds per week, you can use a basic method of calorie counting to help you accomplish your goal. To do so, you need to figure out how many calories a person of your age, sex, and weight usually needs in a day, subtract 500 from that amount, and follow a diet that provides you with that many calories.
For example, if you would ordinarily need 3000 calories in a day, you would follow a 2500-calorie a day diet. Next, figure out how much exercise a person of your weight would need to do to burn 500 calories per day, and engage in an exercise plan that will help you achieve your goal.
The result is simple: 500 fewer calories consumed and 500 more calories expended equals a 1000 calorie per day deficit, which, over the course of a week adds up to 7000 calories, or two pounds. Although individual results may vary, the bottom line is if your body is consuming fewer calories than it's expending, then weight will be lost.

Bio-identical hormones are not all they are cracked up to be. They have serious, dangerous impacts on the human body. Please, if you are going to try these, do your homework first. A growing number of women are experiencing lethal side effects. Some don't make it out the other side. I am one of the lucky ones - I survived the blood clots in my legs and two near-fatal, year-long illnesses connected with use of "natural" progesterone. Since that time, I have been contacted by scores of women who have suffered due to use of these hormones. I hope this information will be helpful to someone else, too. Please, safeguard your health - no one else is going to do it for you.

OK, I will say that the recipes are interesting. The premise of hormonal imbalance is obviously proven right. However, isn't it too dangerous to play with hormones? I would not advice that to anyone. I'd rather stay, with natural, "grandma" remedies as suggested in "Can We Live 150 Year" by Tombak. But I must applaud Ms. Somers for putting emphasize on "whole foods". Overall, if one is not afraid of hormonal treatment, then it is a book worth having.

Everything is affected by the way we eat, think and live. We are energetic beings and need to fuel our bodies with alkaline food. It's that easy. Dr. Robert and Shelley Young explain how, and you feel it immediately. The more alkaline you become the more alkaline you want to be. The chapter on drinking water is superb. It reminds me of another great book that I highly value titled "Can We Live 150". I think these two books should be sold together.

Great book, new concepts, alkalizing works; I know it and it will work for you too. Diet is a bit hard to follow and the amount of supplements you need to take can be overwhelming. I must admit though I did cure myself of breast cancer and am still an alkalarian. I was part of ex-Dr. Young's-company "InnerLight" and decided to leave them for many reasons.
MLM company which Dr Young does not control is selling Green powder and pH drops (that don't even raise the pH of water) and other products. The cost is high, and there are a lot of questions of effectiveness.
I recommend you get the book and then look for better alkalizing choices out there. Like new pH drops that I do promote.
